National HRD Network and NHRDN Chennai Chapter, invite you to the Learning Centre’s one day workshop on ER & Labour Laws in Chennai.

The objective of this functional technical competence module is to impart knowledge of the contents of the various laws and issues relating to employee relations and labour relations. It also involves an ability to relate and bond with employees at informal level so as to be able to implement company policies and also sense employee needs and influence policy changes (employee advocacy )


Program Content:

1. Industrial Relations - Conceptual and Contextual.
2. Appreciate business model and alignment with industry practices.
3. Understanding of social and economic environment – customs, culture etc.
4. Working conditions, environment and influence on work and people.
5. Operational aspects of industrial relations management.
6. Basic appreciation of industrial jurisprudence and trends including the legal framework.
7. Collective bargaining – meaning and scope, content, rights and interest issues, principles and processes - bipartite/tripartite, conciliation, adjudication, arbitration.
8. Globalisation and resultant IR scenario.
9. Understand issues relating to M&A, divestment and right sizing.
10. Understanding of key developments in IR in the country over the past two decades.
11. Approaches to recognition of unions and handling inter and intra union rivalries.

1. Trade Unions Act, 1926 (framework as amended in September, 2001).
2. Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act, 1946.
3. Industrial Disputes Act, 1947.
4. Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Act, 1970.

Desired Target Participants:

The program will be designed for Middle level HR Practitioners with abount 3-7 years work experience.

The Faculty:

Mr. G.Thirunavukarasu, Manager-Employee Relations -Motorola India Pvt Ltd

Thiru has over Twenty Eight Years of work experience in the area of Personnel Management and Industrial Relations across industries engaged in the manufacturing of automobile components, electrical components, plantation, sugar, power and Telecommunication. Currently he serve Motorala India Pvt. Ltd. As MANAGER – Employee Relations for INDIA. In his current role Thiru has the responsibility of ensuring harmonious Industrial Relations across six facilities of Motorala across India. Thiru has handled challenging Industrial Relations situations including managing Strikes, Lock-outs and represented in various conciliatory proceedings and legal cases. He has successfully handled right-sizing of manpower, implementation of Voluntary Retirement Schemes and turnaround of sick units. He also managed a Union-free Autonomous Work Groups also in his career.

His Professional qualifications includes MSW with specialization in PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT and M.Phil in LABOUR STUDIES. A passionate teacher, Thiru has been teaching HR and ER in various Business Schools.

Mr. P.Ganapathy Vice President-Personnel & HR, Brakes India Ltd (TVS Group)

P.Ganapathy is Vice President (Personnel & HR) of Brakes India Ltd. Part of TVS Group of Companies, the position he is holding since February 2005. He is responsible for managing 3000+ strong workforce and maintaining cordial industrial relations across Eight Manufacturing facilities in different parts of the country. Ganapathy has got Twenty Seven years of rich experience in the field of Personnel Management and Industrial Relations in leading Organizations. He has started his career in Coromandel Fertilisers Ltd, Secunderabad as Management Trainee. Subsequently he worked for EID Parry (India) Limited in Personnel & IR functions for over Twelve Years, including very successful stints in their Corporate Office, Fertilizer Factory at Ennore, Ceramic Factory at Ranipet and at MM Nagar Factory of Parry Confectionary. Prior to joining Brakes India Ltd. Mr.Ganapathy worked for Simpson & Company as Head of Personnel between January 2000 to January 2005. He has handled challenging assignments in all the roles he has played over the years.

Ganapathy has done Graduation in Law and Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management.
